Hiro has some unconditional love for 02 and I respect that.

If he had decided to leave for the survival of his friends and the human race then it would have been an honorable decision. Instead he did all this because he was lovelorn.

It's the most rational decision for a love sick teenage boy.
If he did the 'honorable decision' that would be out of character and weird.
If you remember, his sole purpose in life is to ride a FRANXX and when he couldn't do that he just wanted to die. That's all he cares about, his life worth to some one or something (and the programmed memories that he must protect adults).
Then came along Zero Two, now his original memories came back and he wants to live for her, and as you can see if he can't do that he would rather die.

You might actually be right that it is consistent with the nature of the character, but it would be in just that sense alone. Beyond that, there's really nothing admirable about his decision.

I never realized just how much the lyrics of the OP relate to 02’s feelings towards Hiro. As the song goes on so does their relationship. How 02 doesn’t want Hiro to fear her, 02 licking Hiro, how they are the only ones who can pilot together, and then ending with the both of them wanting to be together.

I hope mitsuru and kokoro regain their memories :(

Probably cause their minds are connected, so whatever the franxx feels, the user does too. Like in The Matrix, where Morpheus tells Neo that if you take damage in the Matrix, you would take damage in real life too because the mind makes it real.
